Witchfinder General - Soviet Invasion (Special Edition) Witchfinder General
Maroon Vinyl LP
Heavy Metal Records presents a special edition of Soviet Invasion by Witchfinder General, available on maroon vinyl and a black polycarbonate “vinyl-effect” CD. For the first time, this release compiles all of the band’s singles from their original two-album era into a single collection.
Formed in 1979 in Stourbridge by Zeeb Parkes and Phil Cope, the band emerged from the New Wave of British Heavy Metal with a raw, doom-laden sound heavily influenced by Black Sabbath. Although initially overlooked, Witchfinder General would go on to become cult pioneers of doom metal through releases such as Death Penalty (1982), Friends of Hell (1983), and the original Soviet Invasion! EP. Their dark themes, controversial imagery, and uncompromising approach earned them a lasting place in heavy metal history and a significant influence on the development of the doom metal genre.
This release captures the band at their most formative and uncompromising, presenting a definitive collection of their early recordings in one place. By bringing together these essential tracks in a fresh and highly collectible format, it offers both longtime fans and new listeners the opportunity to experience the origins of doom metal as it was first forged—loud, unpolished, and unmistakably heavy.
