WARREN JAMES - Tales From Film City WARREN JAMES
Warren James are James Kirk (Orange Juice) and Warren McIntyre (Starry Skies), joined for live outings by Hal on bass and Michael (V-Twin, 1990s) on drums.
James Kirk is a founding member of Glaswegian indie legends Orange Juice, known for his jangly, melodic guitar riffs (he also wrote their jangletastic song Felicity). A few months ago, his old bandmate Edwyn Collins asked him, alongside original Orange Juice drummer Steven Daly, to join him for a sort of OJ reunion on his farewell shows in Glasgow and London.
Warren McIntyre is the singer in the seven-piece Starry Skies. He has performed live across Europe, including at Paris’s famous Caveau de la Huchette and the Prague Opera Hall, as well as in New York’s East Village. Starry Skies’ melody-driven songs have found an audience on over 100 radio shows worldwide, including New York’s WFMU.
James and Warren joined forces after being asked to play the opening of the exhibition Christmas Day Down A Goldmine: A New Seam by artist Willie Sutherland, and later at Glas-Goes Pop in 2022. Since then, they have become a prolific songwriting duo, with their first single, the limited edition double AA side Miss Green Tea / Costa del Culzean, receiving airplay on both Scottish radio and BBC Radio 6 Music.
Tales From Film City was mostly recorded in the songwriting and recording studio they established in Glasgow’s Film City in Govan, the same place where Franz Ferdinand recorded their debut. The album also features contributions from Gerard Love (ex-Teenage Fanclub) and Chris Geddes (Belle & Sebastian), among others.
