Thelonious Monk - Monk's Dream Thelonious Monk

The complete album + 2 bonus tracks - limited edition pressing on 180g crystal clear vinyl. Monk's Dream was the first album Thelonious Monk released on Columbia Records following his departure from Riverside Records

Although he had previously recorded all of the album's compositions in various settings, with the exception of "Bright Mississippi", the remarkable cohesion of the quartet - featuring Charlie Rouse, John Ore and Frankie Dunlop - brought them together into a masterful and unified statement. The result was a critically acclaimed album that earned widespread praise upon its release and continues to be celebrated as one of Monk's finest achievements. It also became the best-selling album of his career.

"This important album, Monk's first after a long absence from the recording studio, is a stunning reaffirmation of his power as a performer and composer. It is a brilliant and absorbing program of five Monk originals and three standards (and they might just as well be originals, so startling is their transformation at his hands). This is a beautiful album in every respect, completely stimulating in each second of its more than 47 minutes" - ***** Pete Welding, DownBeat

Includes the bonus tracks "Monk's Dream [original version) and "Just A Gigolo" [1954 solo piano version).
