The Wellermen - Homeward Bound The Wellermen

Homeward Bound is The Wellermen's first fully original album, marking a new chapter as the band moves beyond traditional sea shanties and into their own songwriting

Rooted in themes of love, friendship, adventure, home, and the journeys that shape us, the album blends their signature harmonies and folk influence with a fresh, contemporary sound.

First brought together through the viral sea shanty phenomenon of 2021, The Wellermen have since evolved from an online collaboration into a transatlantic folk group with a distinctive musical identity. Drawing on their diverse backgrounds in British and American folk, country, rock, and a cappella music, the five- piece has developed a sound built on rich vocal harmonies, timeless storytelling, and a shared love of music.

Written solely by the band and recorded and produced exclusively with Cian Synnott, Homeward Bound captures their creative chemistry and collective influences. From the mythical storytelling of Odin's Eye and Samhain to the atmospheric beauty of Starlings and the heartfelt nostalgia of the title track, the album explores a rich tapestry of stories and emotions. Each song feels rooted in folk tradition while offering something distinctly their own.

Blending traditional folk with contemporary songwriting, Homeward Bound celebrates where The Wellermen have come from while looking towards their future. An album about connection, belonging and the stories that bring us together, it establishes The Wellermen not simply as interpreters of folk tradition, but as songwriters and storytellers in their own right.
