Staged to mark the fifth anniversary of the Dutch music magazine Vinyl, this concert was The Smiths' first performance in the Netherlands. The setlist saw the return of Miserable Lie, I Don't Owe You Anything, and These Things Take Time, songs that were already becoming rare in the band's live repertoire. The latter two would be dropped from the setlist soon afterwards.

During the preceding UK tour, Hand in Glove had regularly opened the show with an extended introduction, but for this performance the band reverted to the original arrangement. Following the song, Morrissey introduced Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now, which had recently been recorded and was due for release as a single the following month
