One of the leading bands of the 70's LA punk scene, The Germs only released one studio album before the untimely death of lead singer Darby Crash at the age of 22. Equal parts Sex Pistols and Iggy Pop, the band's legendary live shows bordered on chaos. "(GI)" was produced by Joan Jett and features sixteen tracks of unbridled garage-punk bliss.
Of all the bands to emerge from the early Los Angeles punk scene in the late 1970s, the Germs might be the most legendary. Along with groups like X, Fear, and the Weirdos, they pioneered a form of Southern Californian underground music even more vicious and stripped-down than the London and New York acts that first made punk a vital force in the mid-'70s. Unlike many of their peers, they had the opportunity to capture part of their legacy on a full-length album, at a time when the scene was woefully under-documented on vinyl.
