The Circling Sun - Orbits Volume 2 (Deluxe Edition) The Circling Sun

Following their acclaimed debut Spirits, New Zealand jazz collective The Circling Sun return with their second LP, Orbits, a layered fusion of spiritual jazz, analogue electronics and percussive grooves. Where Spirits explored 1960s influences, Orbits shifts into the mid-’70s, drawing inspiration from Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Yusef Lateef’s Atlantic era and the Brazilian jazz of Azymuth and Airto Moreira.

The ensemble pairs arpeggiating Prophet synths and modular electronics with saxophone, upright piano, vintage drums and hand percussion. The tracks move between danceable Afro-Cuban rhythms and expansive ambient jazz meditations, with layered voices and choral harmonies adding to the album’s spacious sound.

Lush yet accessible, Orbits will appeal to jazz devotees and listeners drawn to ambient, soulful instrumental music.
