The Catburgers - Galashiels The Catburgers

The Catburgers formed in Edinburgh in late 1985, inspired by seeing The Television Personalities live and the explosion of DIY pop across the UK. Blending 1960s-inspired melodies with a moody post-punk edge, the band drew comparisons with fellow Scottish acts including The Pastels and Jesse Garon & The Desperadoes.

Active throughout 1986 and 1987, The Catburgers recorded a series of demos that led Dan Treacy to invite them to record a single for Dreamworld. Although the single was never released, the band continued writing and recording until they split in 1990, leaving behind the sessions that would eventually become Galashiels.

Featuring highlights including I've Got a Friend and The First Day of Spring, Galashiels showcases the band's melodic songwriting and youthful energy, while the latter half of the album reflects their darker post-punk influences. Released almost 40 years after it was recorded, the album captures a lost chapter of the Scottish indie pop scene.
