The Be Good Tanyas’ landmark debut Blue Horse returns in a 25th-anniversary vinyl edition via Birthday Cake Records. Recorded in Vancouver in 2000 on next to no budget, the trio of Frazey Ford, Trish Klein, and Samantha Parton turned old-time, folk, and country-blues into something spooky, intimate, and entirely their own — and rode CBC airplay from an independent release to an international audience.

Blue Horse made the band a phenomenon in the UK: 83 weeks on the Official UK Country Artists Albums Chart (peaking at #3), a place in Q Magazine’s Top 50 albums of the year, a Glastonbury Acoustic Stage set, and an appearance on Later… with Jools Holland. The Independent hailed “one of the most beguiling debuts,” while “The Littlest Birds” became a generational signature, later featured on Showtime’s Weeds.
