Terry Riley - In C - 60th Birthday Full Moon Celebration At Kiyomizu-Dera Temple [Japanese Import] Terry Riley

On the night of the full moon in July 2024—marking roughly 60 years since the shocking premiere of "In C", a work that redefined the global musical landscape—a commemorative performance was held on the stage of Kiyomizu-dera Temple. Terry Riley announced that this would be the final time he personally participated in a performance of In C. A live recording of that event is now being released as a highly anticipated LP on Friday, December 11. This recording was previously released on CD in December 2024; the LP version arrives in response to numerous requests from fans. It is being released by "disk sibasi," the music label of the Kyoto-based cultural space "Shibashi."

Shibashi

Shibashi is a record café and cultural space operated by the music label Traffic, with "disk sibasi" serving as its music division. Located in the Okazaki district of Kyoto, the venue goes beyond a simple café, acting as a hub where diverse cultures intersect and radiate outward through live performances, exhibitions, and more. This LP release marks the fourth title from disk sibasi, following the label's debut release: Terry Riley’s "In C" live CD recorded at Kiyomizu-dera.

His early masterpiece In C (1964) remains a monumental achievement in minimal music, while "A Rainbow in Curved Air" (1969) stands as a timeless psychedelic classic that profoundly influenced the later emergence of ambient music. His innovative work since the 1960s—ranging from hosting "All-Night Concerts" (precursors to rave parties) to creating Indian-influenced compositions that laid the groundwork for sampling and looping techniques in club culture—transcends genres and serves as a cornerstone of the global music scene.
