Tequila - Laches, Les Lions Tequila
CD format
In 1979, Tequila and his boogie in French have created a style… his style. Irresistible!
Philippe Ménard, born on November 19, 1953, in Paray-le-Monial, discovered the guitar at 14 — a moment that would shape his entire life. Inspired by 1960s British and American rock, from The Rolling Stones to Chuck Berry, he quickly developed a deep passion for music.
A defining turning point came when he saw Johnny Winter live, prompting him to abandon his studies and fully commit to the guitar. A self-taught and driven musician, he honed his craft through early band experiences in Bordeaux before making his mark on the Nantes music scene.
Throughout the 1970s, he launched several notable projects, including Carol and the cult punk band Cambouis. But it was with Tequila, founded in 1977, that he truly established his artistic identity. Blending blues, high-energy rock, and French lyrics, the band built a strong following and shared stages with major artists.
Signed by a Paris-based label, Tequila released three albums between 1979 and 1983, later shifting to English-language material and continuing until 1994. Since then, Philippe Ménard has pursued a prolific solo career, performing thousands of concerts across Europe and releasing around a dozen albums.
From a chance discovery in an attic to becoming a key figure in the Nantes rock scene, Philippe Ménard embodies a free-spirited, authentic journey driven by an enduring passion for rock.
