Casting a net over a recording career that spans over 20 years to capture the essence of the Becker/Fagen songwriting vortex is a hard task, but remains highly rewarding work for the compiler and joy for the listener. Thus, the two selected performances here from the ‘All American Tour’ of 1974 combine highlights from their first four albums with their signature classic Do It Again rounding off the 1972-74 timeline.

Their return to the stage in 1993 was a hotly anticipated event and saw a broader line-up, bringing back classics from the 1975-1980 period of studio isolation. However, it was clear that the real stars of Steely Dan’s 1993 reunion tour weren’t simply Becker and Fagen alone, but the songs themselves, those gorgeously crafted pop confections; all sleek surface and clandestine passion. When music is this timeless, the word nostalgia doesn’t apply.

Get Yer Vinyl Out celebrates the legacy of Steely Dan, live on stage with a selection of ten of their greatest hits beautifully restored and professionally remastered. Presented with background notes.
