Sister Rosetta Tharpe - Gospel Train (Verve Vault Series) Sister Rosetta Tharpe
Limited Edition 180g Black LP.
Originally released in 1956, Gospel Train is one of Sister Rosetta Tharpe's most influential recordings. Her first release for Mercury Records, it was also the first of her albums to be issued on the then-new 12" long-playing vinyl format.
Blending electric guitar-driven blues with traditional gospel, Gospel Train captures Sister Rosetta Tharpe's pioneering sound in a polished studio setting, backed by first-call session musicians including the Harmonizing Four. The album features Up Above My Head There's Music in the Air, Jericho, and 99 ½ Won't Do, recordings that highlight the remarkable influence of one of the true pioneers of modern rock and roll.
This Verve Vault edition is all-analogue, cut from the original master tapes by Ryan K. Smith at Sterling Sound and pressed on 180g vinyl.
