Ryuichi Sakamoto - Music For Films Ryuichi Sakamoto
Limited Edition Clear with Black & White Splatter 2LP. Limited to 1000 copies worldwide.
From its small beginnings in 1974 as a local cinema and university event, Film Fest Gent has grown into one of the world's leading film festivals. A vital part of the festival is the World Soundtrack Awards, celebrating the finest film composers. In 2016, the award was presented to one of the most celebrated composers of his generation, Ryuichi Sakamoto. This compilation is the first overview of Sakamoto's remarkable catalogue of film scores, fully approved by the composer and performed by the Brussels Philharmonic under the baton of Dirk Brossé.
Already a pioneering force in electronic music and an acclaimed composer, pianist and singer in Japan, Sakamoto began his film scoring career when director Nagisa Oshima invited him to compose the music for Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence (1983), in which he also starred alongside David Bowie. Over the following three decades, he collaborated with many of cinema's greatest directors, including Bernardo Bertolucci (The Last Emperor), Brian De Palma (Snake Eyes), Pedro Almodóvar (High Heels), and Alejandro González Iñárritu (The Revenant).
This collection is a fitting tribute to one of the greatest film composers and musicians of the modern era.
