Silva Screen Records is proud to announce the release of Music from House of the Dragon, a new album featuring the epic score from HBO’s hit series House of the Dragon reimagined by London Music Works and renowned cellist Nick Squires. This collection of music from the show’s first two seasons – originally composed by Emmy Award-winner Ramin Djawadi – offers fans a fresh way to experience the grandeur and drama of Westeros through powerful new performances. From the thundering battle themes to the haunting melodies of the Targaryen saga, the album brings to life the sounds that have become an integral part of the House of the Dragon experience.

A Landmark Soundtrack Reimagined:

In House of the Dragon, music plays a pivotal role in storytelling, underscoring the rise of the Targaryen civil war and the emotional journeys of its characters.

Throughout the series, Djawadi carefully crafted new leitmotifs for characters like Rhaenyra Targaryen and Alicent Hightower, and heightened pivotal scenes with music that oscillates between intimate and explosive. One standout example is Princess Rhaenys’ dramatic entrance during King Aegon’s coronation, where celebratory fanfares abruptly give way to roaring percussion as her dragon appears – a moment Djawadi has cited as a favourite for how the music shifts “from celebration mode to pure chaos in an instant” perfectly mirroring the on-screen shock.

On this album, London Music Works channel that same dynamic energy in every track. Their previous interpretations of big-screen and television scores have earned them a reputation for quality and authenticity. Joining them is soloist and arranger Nick Squires, a world-renowned contemporary cellist known for his viral “Bach in the Rain” performance (over 50 million views) and innovative string arrangements. Squires’ rich cello tone, heard in many of these pieces, adds depth to the already stirring melodies – from the mournful strains that accompany the show’s tragic losses to the aggressive bowing that drives its war themes. Together, Squires and London Music Works have re-recorded Djawadi’s compositions with tremendous care, maintaining the soul of the originals while enhancing them with the ensemble’s own symphonic flair.

“That’s how the score grows nicely with the story.” Djawadi remarked on expanding familiar motifs across the series, “it’s been really great to reuse old themes, expand on them in different arrangements and moods…and see where it takes us and what new things we can add.”

“As a franchise, [the music] connects all of these stories together,” Djawadi explained, referring to the decision to reprise the unforgettable main theme. “In the original main title, we always thought of it as an overarching theme that connects all of the characters and the journey of this universe. So we felt it would be appropriate to connect it with this main title theme again.”

Djawadi’s words underscore the album’s significance: it celebrates the continuity and evolution of musical ideas from Game of Thrones to House of the Dragon, allowing fans to appreciate the full tapestry of themes in a new light.
