Olivier Rocabois - Mutual Admiration Society Olivier Rocabois

‘Mutual Admiration Society’ is a sonic feast made of 11 new tracks telling the story of a global seppuku. The cosmic void and the fear of dying or losing our dear ones set the overall dark tone. Though pessimistic, the mood of the record is widely counterbalanced by well-crafted songs sung at full blast on kitchen-sink numbers, such as “Sing Your Heart Out”,in which a good-humoured Syd Barrett whistles a Cocteau Twins ballad.

Apart from that, hardcore fans will get their fill of magic with Beach Boys flavours from the Sunflower era (“I See Her Everywhere”), “Ashes to Ashes” meets Prokofiev & The Four Tops (“Mutual Admiration Society”), Nilsson sings Gainsbourg & Al Green (“Smoking in the Rain”),The Flaming Lips relocate to Brazil (“Lifelong Friends”), and Colin Blunstone gets lost ina Venetian reverie (“Bridge Over Sparkling Water”) or chamber pop (“Adagio per Alessandro”).

On the other hand, you’ll also hear more surprising tunes, most notably “March 12th - We Are the Krill”, recorded and arranged by Rémi Alexandre from Syd Matters and“Consolation Row”, an imaginary horror movie OST for clarinet& organ composed following a Homeric ... row with the love of his life, the ballerinaVirginia Gris. Funnily enough, this song has been one of Virginia's all-time faves ever since.
