Novos Baianos - Farol Da Barra Novos Baianos
Available as a limited edition on 180g cream white coloured vinyl. 1978 MPB/samba classic reissued on vinyl for the first time
Novos Baianos was formed in 1969, and while they were only active for about 10 years, they grew to become one of the most revolutionary music groups to ever come out of Brazil. Influenced by 1960s countercultural movements, they created a unique blend of modern guitar-driven rock with Brazilian popular music such as samba and tropicália, which peaked on their 1972 album Acabou Chorare that has been reissued countless times. Bossa nova originator João Gilberto served as the group's mentor during the recording session and this influence changed the direction of the band forever.
Farol Da Barra is the group's last album, from 1978, and is a bit of a sleeper due to the immense hype around Acabou Chorare. Named after a famous lighthouse in Salvador de Bahia, the record has that same bristling, charming energy as in the early 1970s. Original copies are incredibly hard to find so we are proud to present the first vinyl reissue of this somewhat overlooked samba/MPB classic.
Farol Da Barra is available as a limited edition on 180g cream white coloured vinyl.
