Originally released on September 22, 1992, Broken is the first extended play (EP) and second major release by American industrial rock band Nine Inch Nails. Produced by frontman Trent Reznor and Flood, the record marked a sharp departure from the synth-pop sound of the band’s 1989 debut, Pretty Hate Machine. Instead, Broken delivers a heavier, more aggressive sound that would serve as a precursor to The Downward Spiral in 1994.

Frontman Trent Reznor and longtime art director John Crawford created the “definitive editions” to present each major NIN release on vinyl as it was meant to be experienced—fully realized in both sound and design.
