“Growing up in LA at the age of 17, now being 23, I’ve experienced a lot and learned so much about myself and love itself. All of these songs are written either about my own experiences, lessons and who I am today or inspired by a fantasy I’ve created in my mind and heart. These love songs tell the truth of what I desire and crave deeply, a love that is exciting and passionate and impossible to find in Hollywood, writing these songs are the closest I’ll ever get to living it. Words are spells. Songs are spells. I love writing about love because though it’s fleeting in those moments while I’m creating the record, it's true. I live in it, feel it on my skin, close my eyes, taste it and make it real. Whether it’s something I want, something I had, something I’m missing, it is mine all the same. Tough Love is about the darkest and toughest parts of love, songs for those themselves who are tough to love, and songs for love that’s tough to find. Sonically, I was inspired by Massive Attack, Portishead, Fleetwood Mac, Eagles, Alice in Chains, nostalgic music from the '70s through the '90s and add my own dark twists.” – Nessa Barrett
