Bronx Hip Hop royalty, MC G.L.O.B.E. tears it up on this B-boy friendly, DMX driven, future Hip Hop classic. As soon as you drop the needle on side A and hear that intro provided by the Worlds Famous Supreme Team, you know it’s time to buckle up and enjoy the ride, back to 1984.
This 7 track 12” single boasts remixes from Egyptian Lover, Noel Watson, Jimmy Green, and Bsidewinsagain, as well as ‘The Beat Don’t Stop’ (Original Version).
MC G.L.O.B.E. (Soul Sonic Force), author of Hip Hop classics such as Planet Rock, Looking for the Perfect Beat, and Renegades of Funk (to name but a few), is an originally 70s B-boy and part of the first generation of Hip Hop royalty. G.L.O.B.E. is the creator of the ‘MC Popin’ rhyme style, and was inducted into the Universal Hip Hop Museum in 2021. With a Hip Hop history dating back almost fifty years, MC G.L.O.B.E. takes us back to his 80s era with this synth-heavy, drum machine killer. – The Beat Don’t Stop.
Egyptian Lover, formerly of the Radio Crew and Uncle Jams Army, is one of THE originators of the West Coast Hip Hop sound, comprising primarily of synths and the beloved Roland TR 808 drum machine. Along with inspiring a whole new generation of musicians, his music has fanned the flames of the Hip Hop - Electro scene for over four decades, giving the Egyptian Lover name legendary status. At long last, these East Coast and West Coast pioneers can be heard together, via the 808 charged Egyptian Lover remix of ‘The Beat Don't Stop’.
DJ PowerCut (aka) Noel Watson is one of the unsung hero’s of the Hip Hop/Electro genre. With a DJ career spanning over 45 years, Noel’s contribution to music in general, is immeasurable. From mixing part of the 1984 Street Sounds – Electro series, to decorating a #1 ‘Madness’ album (C’est la Vie) with Hip Hop magic in 2023, Noel Watson’s brilliance is recognised the world over by both his peers and his fans. Listen to Noel Watson sprinkle a little four to the floor magic across his DUB interpretation of ‘The Beat Don't Stop’.
DJ Control (aka) William Hughes was part of the first wave of Irish Hip Hop DJ’s to stem from ‘the great European Hip Hop explosion of 1982’, following the release of Malcolm McLaren’s – Buffalo Gals. He quickly became an integral part of the fabric of Irish Hip Hop culture, via his pirate radio show ‘Looking for the Perfect Beat’, which he named after the MC G.L.O.B.E. penned Hip Hop classic of the same name. Control was also a battle DJ, and one of the first Irish producers to embrace sample technology, with his group ‘Dis Is It’. Following an almost thirty year music hiatus (to raise a family), Control returned to the world of music in 2020, but sadly passed away from a short illness in 2023. While his return to the music industry was short-lived, his genius can be heard throughout ‘The Beat Don’t Stop’.
Resume Recordings is the brainchild of Irish broadcaster and 80s B-boy, Eric Moore (aka) DJ Laz-E. The label was founded in 2020 with the intention of recording with some like-minded pals from back in the day, who (like Eric and Control) had also put the dream of making records on hold. Hence the labels name. No sooner had the name been chosen when the dream grew from just a few pals in a studio, to recording with Hip Hop royalty. Laz-E first hit the airwaves in 1987, playing Hip Hop music on Dublin pirate, Smile FM, and has spent the past fifteen years as a radio presenter with Ireland's National Broadcaster. As a Turntablist, he has shared the stage with the who's who of cool, including Blondie, RUN DMC, Gary Numan, Grandmaster Flash, Public Enemy, Tim Dog, Ice-T, etc...
Jimmy Green (Green Kanine) is a classically trained pianist and multi-instrumentalist whose talents extend to the wheels of steel. With a history of remix work for a star-studded list of Hip Hop’s finest, Jimmy produced the goods once again in 2023 by winning the Resume Recordings remix contest. Here, Jimmy turns back the clock with his vintage B-boy vibes on this edit of 'The Beat Don't Stop', allowing the keys to breath, in tribute to the late DJ Control.
Bsidewinsagain is a U.K. Hip Hop producer with a passion for everything old school. His reworks, or reimaginings of classic Hip Hop cuts breathe new life into our old school favourites, while maintaining that original feel. Bsidewinsagain gives us exactly what it says on the tin, and then some, with this winning B-side interpretation of ‘The Beat Don't Stop’.
The Worlds Famous Supreme Team (Sedivine the Mastermind & Just Allah the Superstar), known for their radio show of the same name, made their ON-AIR debut on WHBI-FM 105.9 back in 1979, when Hip Hop was only making ‘its’ vinyl debut. The Supreme Team rose to international acclaim in 1982 when they (along with audio from their radio show) featured in Malcolm McLaren’s worldwide smash hit, ‘Buffalo Gals’. The Supreme Team hit the U.K. top 20 for a second time in 1984 with 'Hey DJ', which was later sampled for Mariah Carey's worldwide hit, 'Honey'. For most non-New Yorkers, Buffalo Gals is considered to be the definitive introduction to Hip Hop culture, as opposed to the “Rap” genre featured on earlier records.
Now, over forty years on from their ‘Duck Rock’ appearance, the Worlds Famous Supreme Team find themselves on the other end of the request line, looking to hear ‘The Beat Don’t Stop’, by MC G.L.O.B.E.
