Originally released in 2000, Mason Jennings' sophomore release firmly establishes him as a singer/songwriter with staying power. It reveals his penchant for singing first-person narratives of imaginary rustic characters. The New York Times compared him to Dave Matthews and in 2016, City Pages said that Birds Flying Away was Mason Jennings' best record.
