Little Milton brought the emotional depth of the blues and modern sound of soul together with remarkable power on his 1965 album, We’re Gonna Make It. After joining the Chess Records family through its Checker imprint in the early 1960s, the Mississippi-born singer, guitarist, and songwriter revitalized the label with a new sound. The title track, a stirring anthem for the growing civil rights movement, topped the R&B chart for three weeks straight. The album showcases Milton’s vocal control and expert phrasing which defined Milton’s crossover success. Other key tracks include Who’s Cheating Who?, Blind Man, and Stand By Me.
