One of the names inextricably linked with the music from the southern juke joints is the fabulous Lightnin' Slim (aka Otis Hicks 1913-1974), a mainstay of "swamp blues" that distinctive down-home electric blues from Louisiana.

He possessed one of the genuinely great blues voices, which was laidback, unadorned, and unaffected. Slim built his style on his grainy but expressive singing and rudimentary guitar work. Rooster Blues is perhaps his finest album and one of "swamp blues" most iconic treasures.
