The first band on Fat Wreck Chords, Lagwagon pioneered the modern pop-punk movement. Hoss (1995) is a foundational pillar of 90s skate punk that helped define the signature "Fat Wreck Chords" sound—fast, melodic, and technically proficient. Frontman Joey Cape introduced introspective, melancholic songwriting to the genre on iconic anthems like Violins, proving aggressive punk could carry emotional weight. Furthermore, Derrick Plourde’s innovative, lightning-fast drumming raised the technical bar for the entire scene, heavily influencing generations of punk drummers worldwide.
