King Buffalo - Doomsayer King Buffalo
Bone Coloured Vinyl LP.
King Buffalo return from a four year writing period full of thunder. Doomsayer finds the Rochester, New York power trio reinvented, more confident and explorative than ever before while retaining the core of their heavy psych rock sound.
In the years following the release of the final installment of their "pandemic trio" - a series of records made in quick succession in the early 2020s - King Buffalo began work building their own full-fledged recording studio. For such a prolific band, the years long wait for a new record was uncharacteristic, but their return demonstrates the fruits of their labor.
Doomsayer showcases some of the band's heaviest work, but also some of the most innovative. Guitarist / singer Sean Roa doubles down on his signature tight riffing style while also showing a growing interest in blues and space rock. Synthesizers pulse in lockstep with bassist Dan Reynolds and drummer Scott Donaldson, forming one of the tightest rhythm groups in psych rock. The band's heavy kraut-psych-stoner style is undeniably their own and has been honed with each release.
“Doomsayer originated in early 2026,” says Roa, “out of many hours of jam sessions in our new studio space, playing around and seeing where it took us. We didn’t really have an end goal in mind of what we were going for. We were simply exploring ideas and seeing what ended up speaking to us the most. So much has happened, both as a band and in our personal lives since our last record, that ended up becoming the inspiration to many of the lyrics on Doomsayer. I think as a result, this is some of our most upfront, direct and riff-driven work to date. We are incredibly proud of it, and can’t wait for it to get out into the world.”
