What a sweet and unlikely surprise: 25 years after the release of Die Summe der einzelnen Teile by Kante, Acid Pauli delivers a bomb of a remix. His uptempo techno version turbocharges the Hamburger Schule classic - a German song that ponders the wonders of making music: "in some moments, for a while, it emerges as more than the sum of its parts".

Acid Pauli first dropped the unreleased track in his live sets and his Pingipung Podcast (#175), and when he asked Kante what they thought about the dopamine-drenched rendering of their pop hit from 2000 in his DJ mix, thumbs and smiles went up all around.

When it turned out that Acid Pauli had another Kante edit up his sleeve, this 7" single quickly found its shape. On the B-side he marries his kick drums to the slow, yearning California from Kante’s 1997 debut album Zwischen den Orten.

So here it is: Pingipung proudly presents Kante on Acid - two bangers for the festival season that take us back to the roots of Hamburg’s pop music, refracted by Acid Pauli’s characteristically energetic, psychedelic groove.

Kante are a one-of-a-kind band blending Hamburger Schule with jazz, post-rock and indie elements, known for their expressive, melancholic lyrics. With albums like Zwischen den Orten, Zweilicht, Zombi and Die Tiere sind unruhig, they became one of the most distinctive voices in German-language pop around the turn of the millennium.

Acid Pauli (aka Martin Gretschmann) is synonymous with an eclectic approach to electronic music. For more than two decades he has explored psychedelic, adventurous sounds beyond the mainstream, performing everywhere from techno clubs in New York and Ibiza to producing radio plays and composing film scores.
