Norwegian folk artist Juni Habel's latest album Evergreen In Your Mind is largely an ode to letting go, and at its inquisitive heart sits “Pearl Cloud Song.”

An instrumental piece born from a guitar tuning Habel stumbled upon by chance, the track emerged almost of its own accord. Lush, vibrant and bristling with life, it combines steel-string guitar, pedal steel, subtle effects, a simple drum machine pattern and the distant flicker of a voice to create a beautifully immersive atmosphere. As Habel describes it, the piece “gives the sensation of flying.”

That sense of openness and possibility makes Pearl Cloud Song ideal material for reinterpretation. Pearl Cloud Song Reformations is a very limited 12" release, featuring two new reworkings alongside Habel’s original recording. Only 100 copies have been produced.

The first reformation comes from Tom Sharkett, the Manchester-born producer and founding member of W. H. Lung, whose solo work has appeared on labels including Optimo Music, DFA and Test Pressing. His cosmic, psychedelic take on the track marks his first remix committed to vinyl since his acclaimed rework of LCD Soundsystem’s “Home.”

The release also features a remix from Minotaur Shock, the long-running project of Bristol-based producer David Edwards. Known for releases on 4AD, Melodic and Bytes, Edwards blends pastoral warmth with IDM-inspired textures, creating music that is as emotionally resonant as it is sonically adventurous.

Together, these reinterpretations offer fresh perspectives on one of the most captivating pieces from Evergreen In Your Mind, expanding its world while preserving the beauty at its core.
