JuJu Rogers - Pink Guitars, Spaceships N Voodoo Dolls JuJu Rogers
CD Album
Juju Rogers returns with new album Pink Guitars, Spaceships N Voodoo Dolls – a radical Afrophunk statement reimagining Black identity, sound and self-determination. JuJu Rogers’ story is anything but ordinary. Born to an American G.I. from New Orleans and a German mother with Austrian roots, he grew up navigating the cultural identities of two very different worlds. Inspired by his father’s collection of jazz and soul records, JuJu began playing trumpet at an early age, before finding his footing in the raw, uncompromising energy of his local punk and hardcore scene. Music became both a compass and a conduit, a way of understanding his place between disparate realities, and a tool through which he could explore, define and articulate them. Since the release of his debut LP From The Life Of A Good For Nothing (2015), JuJu Rogers has carved out a distinct voice within the global underground, collaborating with artists such as Jesse Royal, Sampa The Great, Mick Jenkins and Ivan Ave.Now, after a five-year hiatus, JuJu Rogers returns with his most expansive and conceptually ambitious project to date: Pink Guitars, Spaceships N Voodoo Dolls. JuJu’s boundless spirit of experimentation is further amplified by a carefully curated list of collaborators. The project features contributions from genre-defying artist Pink Siifu, MONEYNICCA of Philadelphia hardcore punk band Soul Glo, and the poetic, soulful voice of Jamila Woods. At its core, the album is a bold exploration at the intersection of music, culture and social commentary, a project that marks a defining new chapter in JuJu’s artistic evolution. Rooted in a fusion of linguistic and cultural influences, it draws from the Afropunk movement ; a celebration of Black punk identity, and the psychedelic funk lineage of Parliament-Funkadelic, forging a dynamic and genre-defying framework JuJu describes as “Afrophunk.” Much more than a musical experiment, Pink Guitars, Spaceships N Voodoo Dolls is a philosophical statement
