This concert was recorded on March 28, 1960, at the Apollo Theatre in Düsseldorf, which had been converted into a television studio by German Radio.

Originally planned as a performance by Miles Davis Quintet and guests, with Miles Davis ultimately choosing not to take part in the recording, leaving John Coltrane to take the lead.

Features musicians John Coltrane, Winton Kelly, Paul Chambers and Jimmy Cobb, with guests Stan Getz and Oscar Peterson.
