Jimbo Jones - We Only Want The Earth Jimbo Jones

We Only Want the Earth is the Irish Arts Council-funded concept album from electronic musician and climate scientist Jimbo Jones. It documents the destruction of our environment, our society and ourselves, but offers an imagined alternative: a utopic future based on community.

Born from fear of the political, societal and environmental realities we find ourselves in today, this concept album draws on a broad range of research, framing macro forces through a personal lens. This research includes Émile Durkheim's On Suicide (1897), Gabor Maté's In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts and Kate Raworth's Doughnut Economics, among many others. The album flips between the organic and the industrial, with Jimbo's newly found vocals detailing a bipolar narrative that mirrors the push and pull of life inside our fractured system. Stitched together with field recordings and found sounds, the album is constructed almost entirely from memorabilia and is without a doubt Jimbo at his most vulnerable.

In the album's lead single, Lost All My Time to the Television, Jimbo finds himself stuck in a cycle of technological addiction. He questions the extent to which this is his own moral failing or the result of larger forces at play. Amidst this downward spiral, he reckons with the pattern, frees himself from its exploitative grip, only to find himself adrift in a sea of hungry ghosts.
