Jay-Jay Johanson released Poison following the success of Whiskey and Tattoo. The album was a hit in Sweden and France, reaching No. 20 in the French charts. The singles Keep It a Secret and Believe in Us became popular alternative hits across Europe.
As the album art implies, Poison is arguably one of Jay-Jay Johanson's most sinister works. To create this feel, Jay-Jay Johanson collaborated with Robin Guthrie, who is famous for his work with Cocteau Twins. Despite the themes of betrayal and misunderstanding, Johanson's dark humour is never far away. Musically, Johanson once again blends genres such as trip hop, jazz, and electronic influences to create a hauntingly beautiful listening experience.
