Jack Hammer, was an American pianist, singer, and songwriter, credited as the co-writer on 'Great Balls Of Fire' (Real name: Earl Solomon Burroughs). Jack Hammer Sings & Reads Songs & Poems Of The Beat Generation was originally released in 1960 on the Warwick label, and is now a highly covetable artefact of the beatnik era. Dusty Groove said "Thanks a lot to Jack Hammer, who comes off here like a self-styled Oscar Brown Jr! Despite the title, most of the work seems to be Jack's own – and the record features some hip Ginsberg/Kerouac-styled poems spoken over small combo jazz backing by an unnamed group with a great guitarist – plus more tracks that are actually songs, done in the evocative folk jazz style that Brown was using heavily in his recordings of the period.."
"One of the coolest albums of beatnik jazz we've ever heard" - Dusty Groove
