Dying Victims Productions is proud to present the long-awaited debut album from Italy’s INTO DARKNESS, Route to the Other Side, on CD and vinyl LP formats.

Italy’s INTO DARKNESS have been a work in progress since their formation in 2011. Led by vocalist and guitarist Doomed Warrior from the very beginning, the band released a handful of demos, a couple of splits, and a pair of EPs during their first decade of existence. While all short-form releases, they certainly did not lack in quality.

As time (and line-up changes) went on, INTO DARKNESS’ primary influences - equally early Asphyx and Soulburn, Pentacle, Sinister, Gorefest, Dead Head, Phlebotomized, Acrostichon, and Thanatos, among others - came more sharply into focus, aligning reverently with old-school Dutch death metal while maintaining a unique lyrical focus: divulgative astronomy. Not astrology, not sci-fi, not Lovecraft - only, and specifically, divulgative astronomy, sometimes poetic but always grounded in reality.

Now, at long last, INTO DARKNESS are prepared to unleash their debut album. Tellingly titled Route to the Other Side, the Italians’ first full-length is a concept album about the outer Solar System, one that still considers Pluto a planet and also includes Halley's Comet.

As a power trio, they unleash a twisted, hulking mass of death metal - dark, doomed, but not without a distinctive spark of astral atmosphere. Mind you, INTO DARKNESS still don’t do “sci-fi” or “spacey” death metal; rather, the sweeping songwriting, which overtakes the listener with an energetic yet patient pace, expresses the band’s lyrical themes in more subtle terms. Put another way, they show rather than tell the vast, ominous majesty of space, leaving behind clichéd sonic signifiers in favour of timeless death metal songwriting.

Nevertheless, the trio possess prodigious chops and are unafraid to put them in service of the songs. Framed within the album’s powerful, professional production, it all feels exceptionally organic and never flashy. A creative, passionate vision that has grown beyond their original tribute to classic Dutch death metal, INTO DARKNESS have finally arrived.
