Horace Silver - Silver's Blue Horace Silver
Limited Edition 180g Vinyl
Legendary hard-bop pianist and composer Horace Silver (1928–2014) was influenced by a wide range of musical styles, notably gospel, African, Latin and soul jazz. He recorded primarily for Blue Note between 1952 and 1980, resulting in more than 25 album releases.
Presented here is Horace Silver's fourth LP, Silver's Blue, taped for the Epic label during two sessions in 1956, which followed three earlier sessions he had already recorded for Blue Note. The Epic session was to be the last LP he cut for the label, following which he returned to Blue Note where he remained until 1980 with the album Silver 'n Strings Play the Music of the Spheres.
The longevity of Silver's tenure with Blue Note was down to a deep friendship with the label's boss Alfred Lion, who allowed him greater input on aspects of album production than was usual at the time. Silver's Blue includes Blue Note stablemates Donald Byrd and Hank Mobley.
Includes the bonus track "Everything Happens To Me".
