HONK GONG - HONK GONG HONK GONG

Honk Gong is a brand-new trip-hop / no wave duo built around the wild, dreamlike sampling of Paul Ramon (Pleasure Principle, Bryan’s Magic Tears) and the infectiously laid-back flow of San Francisco–based producer/MC Robin Jiro Margerin (Salopecia, There’s Ifs, Marginal Tow).

Born from a series of sampling experiments developed alongside the album Buvez le Poison (Pleasure Principle, Born Bad Records, 2024), the project took shape with musician/producer Paul Rannaud (Volage, Marietta, Insecure Men), before Robin Margerin added his lyrics and nonchalant delivery. Nine tracks, including several standout cuts (“Apocalypse Dub,” “Belly Rubber,” “Speedracer”), drifting from motorik dub to tropical trip-hop and lo-fi hip-hop, somewhere between the cool detachment of Dirty Beaches, Gorillaz or Dean Blunt, and the sonic bricolage of Shit and Shine, Juicy J or A Tribe Called Quest.
