This is unabashedly Francophile, utterly gorgeous pop, with wistfully beautiful Bach-like organ themes woven throughout. The melodies drift in and out of one another, catching hold, then letting go. Just as you feel you’ve finally got hold of something, it slips away again, until another hook catches you. And you just want to stay a little longer.

Flowers of Ruin’s debut feels like a night in Nice – stylish, slightly drunk, and hopelessly heartbroken. Like salt-sprayed boulevards at sunrise, cheap red wine, cigarette smoke lingering in the air, and a love affair you know from the very beginning was never going to last.
