Fatback Band - (Do The) Spanish Hustle - The Joaquin 'Joe' Claussell Versions Fatback Band
Black Vinyl 12".
Joaquin ‘Joe’ Claussell returns to the Spring Revisited project with another jazz-infused house reinterpretation of a classic Fatback Band funk track.
Spring Revisited is a collaborative project between Ace Records and Acid Jazz, inviting influential house music producers to reinterpret classic tracks from the seminal New York label Spring Records, a pioneer in funk, soul and disco.
Following a series of sell-out and chart-topping 12" and 7" releases, along with a 2LP compilation, the project continues with two new mixes of the Fatback Band's (Do The) Spanish Hustle. Claussell combines the original's classic funk elements with Latino percussion and samba-inspired trumpets.
First is the Sacred Rhythm Version, which raises the tempo and loops a section of the original percussion. Retaining the signature trumpets and soulful vocal phrases, Claussell adds a DJ-friendly kick drum while showcasing his improvisational flair with a vibrant synth line.
On the flip, the Spanish Harlem Dub strips back the drums and horns, placing the focus firmly on the bassline with a moody rework enriched by funk-infused organ chords.
Speaking about the original recording, Joe Claussell says:
"I can vividly recall the very first time I heard Spanish Hustle blasting through my brother Jackie’s stereo system. Not long afterward, I experienced its energy again on the dance floor at a discotheque known as The Inferno, where it was masterfully delivered by the legendary René Hewitt. The record left an imprint on my spirit that never faded."
A spectacular continuation of the series, this release is presented in the now-signature Spring Revisited housebag, styled to resemble an original worn promotional 12", and pressed in a strictly limited run.
