Erik Hector - Min själ och sinne Erik Hector

Magnus Gustafsson was a researcher and musician, especially in Kronoberg County, but he delighted the whole country with his research and music. This album is made in his memory, and it is most deserved. Gustafsson and the singer on this album, Erik Hector, were both members of the Småland folk music and singing group Sågskära, whose members, even after they went their separate ways, continued to produce music in the same spirit, that is, Småland folk songs and music, often as old-fashioned as possible. The recordings have not only highlighted the music itself but also presented the people who performed it, in mission houses, cottages and on the barn hill.

Here we hear examples of spiritual songs in a folk style performed by a man who definitely understood how such things could sound. Erik Hector has a very beautiful, soft and heartfelt singing voice, of course with a low-pitched r, which is hard to stop enjoying. On some well-chosen chorales he has enlisted the help of church musician Gunilla Hammarlund on the pedal organ, perhaps to get a little variety, and of course there is no more suitable instrument for this.

Otherwise, it's just Hector's voice and fifteen chorales, and regardless of what you think of the message, the lyrics are linguistically very beautiful. Exemplarily recorded, too.
