Elmore James, John Brim - Whose Muddy Shoes (Acoustic Sounds) Elmore James, John Brim

Chess Records 75 Series from Chess Records and Acoustic Sounds

Whose Muddy Shoes digs up essential, underrated recordings from two giants of the Chicago blues, Elmore James and John Brim. Recorded in different sessions for Chess Records between 1953 to 1960, these performances capture the raw, electrifying sound that helped shape modern blues. Across these recordings, James’ unmistakable guitar work and commanding vocals complement the lesser-known (yet remarkable and gritty) singing of Brim. Whose Muddy Shoes offers a compelling portrait of two distinct blues voices at their best. Standout tracks include “Dust My Broom,” “Ice Cream Man,” and “The Sun Is Shining.”
