Ed Motta - Toc Toc [Japanese Import] Ed Motta

Brazilian groove master Ed Motta is back with Toc Toc, his first new album in nearly three years since the acclaimed Behind The Tea Chronicles.

While its predecessor showcased sophisticated AOR craftsmanship and meticulous production often compared to the finest work of Steely Dan, Toc Toc takes a different path, diving headfirst into sleek, groove-driven Brazilian electro-boogie.

Packed with infectious rhythms, shimmering synthesizers, and razor-sharp arrangements, the album feels like a journey back to the golden age of 1980s boogie and funk. Opening track “Eu Quero Ser Feliz” sets the tone with its spacious electric piano textures and modern sophistication, while the title track “Toc Toc” rides an irresistible synth-bass riff that perfectly captures Motta’s signature fusion of funk, soul, and Brazilian flair.

The album also retains the urban sophistication and mellow elegance that have become hallmarks of Motta’s sound. Tracks such as “Glamour Hotel” and “O Desejo Está Nu” deliver smooth, mid-tempo grooves rich in atmosphere and melodic refinement.

With Toc Toc, Ed Motta once again proves why he remains one of Brazil’s most distinctive musical visionaries, delivering an irresistible blend of vintage boogie aesthetics and contemporary production excellence.
