Dizzy Gillespie - On The French Riviera Dizzy Gillespie

The complete album + 2 bonus tracks - limited edition pressing on 180g red coloured vinyl, contains new specially prepared liner notes by Penguin Guide to Jazz's writer Brian Morton and the prestigious French publication, Jazz Magazine

Culled from sessions recorded live in France and at a New York studio in 1962, Dizzy on the French Riviera marked Dizzy Gillespie's first incursion into the realm of Bossa Nova, though he had already been a pioneering force in the development of Latin jazz. The album features backing by small groups ranging from quintets to septets, and boasts such stars as pianist Lalo Schifrin, who arranged all the music, and saxophonist Charlie Ventura.
