Hereditary is a 2018 American psychological horror film written and directed by Ari Aster in his feature directorial debut. When Ellen, the matriarch of the Graham family, passes away, her daughter's family begins to unravel cryptic and increasingly terrifying secrets about their ancestry.

The soundtrack for the movie was written, arranged, and produced by Colin Stetson. Aster wanted the music to "feel evil." Stetson explained that he tried to look at the score as though it was a character in the film, developing as the narrative progressed.
