It follows a formula similar to two other Baker albums, the aforementioned Chet Baker Sings (1954), and Chet Baker Sings and Plays with Bud Shank, Russ Freeman & Strings ( 1964), in which he sings popular standards. Unlike those records, It Could Happen to You features some songs with Baker opting to scat in place of a trumpet solo.
