Burnin’ is the sixth album by The Wailers, originally released in October 1973 and widely regarded as one of the defining statements of roots reggae. It was the final album created by the classic trio of Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer before Tosh and Bunny departed for solo careers and the group evolved into Bob Marley & The Wailers.
Written, recorded and produced in Jamaica by the band themselves, Burnin’ propelled The Wailers onto the international stage, driven by classics such as “I Shot The Sheriff” — later a US No. 1 hit for Eric Clapton — and the enduring anthem “Get Up, Stand Up,” a song embraced by civil rights movements around the world.
To some degree, Burnin’ serves as a summary of The Wailers’ journey to that point. Filled with revolutionary spirit and social consciousness, it stands as the final, powerful statement from a line-up that had travelled from the streets of Trenchtown to the brink of global stardom.
Although still a relatively new act in Britain and America, The Wailers had been recording together since 1963 and possessed a deep catalogue of material largely unknown outside Jamaica. Several tracks on Burnin’ revisit earlier compositions, including “Put It On,” originally released on Studio One in 1965, alongside re-recorded favourites such as “Duppy Conqueror” and “Small Axe.”
This definitive Analogue Productions UHQR edition presents the album in its highest-quality vinyl format yet. Mastered by Ryan K. Smith at Sterling Sound from the original analogue master tape, the album is pressed at Quality Record Pressings on 200-gram Clarity Vinyl and housed in a deluxe custom clamshell box. Limited to just 4,500 copies worldwide, each 33⅓ RPM UHQR pressing is individually inspected and includes a booklet detailing the production process, along with a hand-signed certificate of inspection.
A landmark album receives the ultimate audiophile treatment.
