McCoy Tyner - Reaching Fourth with Roy Haynes and Henry Grimes McCoy Tyner
Complete LP with 2 bonus tracks, special limited gatefold edition pressed on 180g vinyl.
Coming to prominence as the pianist of the legendary John Coltrane Quartet, McCoy Tyner recorded more than 80 albums between his 1962 debut as a bandleader, Inception, and his final release, Solo: Live from San Francisco (2009). Tyner, who died in 2020, won five Grammy Awards and significantly expanded the boundaries of jazz by blending modal jazz and fusion with hard bop and free jazz. Reaching Fourth was his second album as a leader.
Includes the bonus tracks 'There Is No Greater Love' and 'Speak Low.
"One of the most original and influential pianists to fully emerge in the 1960s (along with Bill Evans), McCoy Tyner's unique chord voicings and ease at playing creatively over vamps pushed the evolution of jazz piano forward quite a bit. Generally memorable." - **** 1/2 Scott Yanow, AllMusic
