Arthur Duke Reid - Treasure Dub Vol 1 (reissue) Arthur Duke Reid

Duke Reid was a former policeman turned sound-system king, and his Treasure Isle studio sat above a Kingston liquor shop. After he died in 1975, Sonia Pottinger took over the catalogue, and his nephew Errol Brown, an engineer who'd learned his craft around the great King Tubby reworked old rocksteady cuts into dub. Treasure Dub Vol. 1 is the result - 12 short versions with echo, drop-outs and the odd scrap of original vocal. Tommy McCook's house band provides the bones. It's gentler and more melodic than the heavy dub of the time and comes with a sweetness that suits tracks like 'Arabian Dub' and 'Willow Tree Dub.'
