As the original sleeve notes stated, \"jazz is inevitably associated with the United States\", and yet it has long been the case that other countries and cultures are able to bring a unique perspective to the music, as displayed on \u003cem\u003eLola\u003c\/em\u003e, an album recorded in a pre-internet age by a hugely talented Polish quartet, at a time when the international exchange of ideas, let alone overseas travel, was extremely limited.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eMade up of seven original compositions, and a new take on the \u003cstrong\u003eJerome Kern\u003c\/strong\u003e and \u003cstrong\u003eOscar Hammerstein II\u003c\/strong\u003e standard '\u003cem\u003eOl' Man River\u003c\/em\u003e', \u003cem\u003eLola\u003c\/em\u003e draws on Polish folklore for inspiration, particularly highlander music. As quoted in the extensive new sleeve notes that accompany this release, \u003cstrong\u003eNamys?owski\u003c\/strong\u003e \"wanted it to sound different than the so-called pure jazz.\" Recorded at \u003cstrong\u003eDecca Studio No. 3\u003c\/strong\u003e in August 1964, the sessions for the ‘\u003cem\u003eLola\u003c\/em\u003e’ album were overseen by \u003cstrong\u003eMike Vernon\u003c\/strong\u003e, who would go on to produce Fleetwood Mac, David Bowie, and John Mayall among others, and establish the \u003cstrong\u003eBlue Horizon\u003c\/strong\u003e label. The engineer was \u003cstrong\u003eVic Smith\u003c\/strong\u003e, who would go on to produce The Jam.
