Having paid their dues over the years playing numerous clubs across Canada, their high-class musicianship was in no doubt but, as might have been reasonably expected, RCA Records wanted a return on the time and money spent on the debut album, which led to a reluctance to give a green light until they heard a “hit”.\u003cspan aria-hidden=\"true\"\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-start=\"490\" data-end=\"753\"\u003eDutifully, the band buckled down and spent the summer of 1985 writing alone and with collaborators. \u003cstrong data-start=\"590\" data-end=\"611\"\u003eShell Schellekens\u003c\/strong\u003e, producer for \u003cstrong data-start=\"626\" data-end=\"644\"\u003eGolden Earring\u003c\/strong\u003e, was hired to oversee the recordings, and the band flew to Holland to commence work at his recording studio.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-start=\"755\" data-end=\"1312\"\u003eAlong with the songs readied for the album, RCA suggested the band record a cover of UK band \u003cstrong data-start=\"848\" data-end=\"858\"\u003eMagnum\u003c\/strong\u003e's \u003cem data-start=\"861\" data-end=\"883\"\u003e“Just Like an Arrow”\u003c\/em\u003e, which had been a hit in Europe. When the album was finished, RCA were delighted with the results and the band were all set to play dates with \u003cstrong data-start=\"1027\" data-end=\"1043\"\u003eKim Mitchell\u003c\/strong\u003e (of \u003cstrong data-start=\"1048\" data-end=\"1063\"\u003eMax Webster\u003c\/strong\u003e), and were told they may get dates with \u003cstrong data-start=\"1104\" data-end=\"1113\"\u003eAC\/DC\u003c\/strong\u003e and \u003cstrong data-start=\"1118\" data-end=\"1131\"\u003eVan Halen\u003c\/strong\u003e. But the day they turned up to their tour bus, their manager told them RCA were in negotiations to be bought by another company and all expenditure on signed bands would be frozen.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-start=\"1314\" data-end=\"1614\"\u003e\u003cem data-start=\"1314\" data-end=\"1334\"\u003eEndangered Species\u003c\/em\u003e was eventually released, but the band struggled to survive financially, and although they were offered a third album by RCA once everything was settled, the band were eager to promote \u003cem data-start=\"1519\" data-end=\"1539\"\u003eEndangered Species\u003c\/em\u003e as they believed in it.
