Valerie and the Week of Wonders was formed by \u003cstrong\u003eGerard M Burns\u003c\/strong\u003e with brothers \u003cstrong\u003eBrian and Ewan Mcfie\u003c\/strong\u003e at Glasgow School of Art in the early 1980s.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDrawing comparisons to \u003cstrong\u003eSimple Minds\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003eU2\u003c\/strong\u003e and \u003cstrong\u003eR.E.M\u003c\/strong\u003e, their post-punk sound attracted attention from \u003cstrong\u003eJohn Peel\u003c\/strong\u003e who aired their single \u003cem\u003eToo Late\u003c\/em\u003e in 1984. The band signed to \u003cstrong\u003eA\u0026amp;M\u003c\/strong\u003e and released \u003cem\u003eReal Surprise\u003c\/em\u003e in 1985 which became a BBC Radio 1 Single of the Week. However, like many bands of the time, their recording deal collapsed.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFor decades, all that remained were those two singles and a box of unreleased demos. During lockdown, the band revisited the tapes, finally bringing a remarkable lost chapter of Scottish post- punk back to life.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn 2025 the band decamped to Beetroot Studios in Airdrie with producer \u003cstrong\u003eStuart MacLeod\u003c\/strong\u003e to work on new material. \u003cem\u003eRhythm of Lies\u003c\/em\u003e is released by Last Night From Glasgow on blue vinyl and CD.
