It was total freedom.\"\u003cspan aria-hidden=\"true\"\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-start=\"560\" data-end=\"1174\"\u003eWhen it came time to mix \u003cem data-start=\"585\" data-end=\"596\"\u003eNocturnes\u003c\/em\u003e, Melvoin suggested her friend and super producer \u003cstrong data-start=\"646\" data-end=\"661\"\u003eTchad Blake\u003c\/strong\u003e (\u003cem data-start=\"663\" data-end=\"676\"\u003eThe Bangles\u003c\/em\u003e, \u003cem data-start=\"678\" data-end=\"694\"\u003eArctic Monkeys\u003c\/em\u003e, \u003cem data-start=\"696\" data-end=\"709\"\u003eSheryl Crow\u003c\/em\u003e, \u003cem data-start=\"711\" data-end=\"723\"\u003eCibo Matto\u003c\/em\u003e), who put the finishing touches on the record from his studio in the English countryside. \"It meant the world that our fans directly supported the mixing of the album through online eBay auctions of memorabilia, vinyl, art, and even a couple private dinners, because that enabled us to enlist the powers of the incredible Tchad Blake,\" Cam says. The entirety of those original mixes have never seen the light of day until now, with this 2026 reissue.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-start=\"1176\" data-end=\"1583\"\u003eAs they contemplated rereleasing \u003cem data-start=\"1209\" data-end=\"1220\"\u003eNocturnes\u003c\/em\u003e with \u003cstrong data-start=\"1226\" data-end=\"1245\"\u003eKill Rock Stars\u003c\/strong\u003e, Cam started digging around to find the album's original mixes. \"I chose Tchad's first and second mix attempts because I wanted to preserve his first instincts before we gave him a million notes,\" she says. \"This is truly how he heard it on one or two tries.
